Galen Gordan Hedges

Galen Gordan Hedges began his life on April 22, 1939, when he was welcomed into this world by his parents Gordon and Jessie (Bailey) Hedges, in Elk City, Oklahoma. He departed this world on August 31, 2026, at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 9 days.

Galen and his family grew up in the Richmond area, where he graduated from Richmond Schools with the Class of 1957. He then attended SWOSU in Weatherford for two years while learning mechanics.

Galen was united in marriage to Madeline Irene and they were blessed with two sons, William and Michael. Galen and his family made their home in the Seiling and Taloga areas.

Galen worked for Delbern Barnes. He later worked for Leroy Webster, and for Wendell Hedges at Hedges and Gaden before returning to work for Delbern. Galen then moved to Waynoka where he worked as a trucker at the concrete plant. Galen’s final move was to Thomas, Oklahoma, where he remained until his death. In his spare time, Galen loved hunting and he had many fond memories of duck and quail hunting with his brother Bob.

Galen was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Jessie, his wife, Irene, and by his sister Bernice Gilchrist. He is survived by his sons: William Hedges of Taloga, OK, and Michael Hedges of Piedmont, OK; brother Bob Hedges and wife Sue of Seiling, OK; six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Galen was a hard-working man whose presence will be missed by those who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in peace.
