IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Ane
Peters
January 29, 1937 – September 16, 2025
Mary Ane Peters was born on January 29, 1937, on a farm west of Aline, Oklahoma. Her parents were Frank Goss and Mollie (Young) Goss. She was the sixth of eight children. She attended Aline Public Schools throughout her youth, with the exception of six months when her family moved to Gary, Indiana. She made a profession of faith in Jesus in grade school in a small country church; she said that most of the adults didn't think she knew what she was doing, but Mary stated that she knew exactly what she was doing. In high school, Mary participated in tennis and basketball. She excelled in tennis, competing in several area tournaments.
Shortly after high school, she married Bob Hunt, and to this union three wonderful girls were born: Kim, Tammy, and Shelley. Mary was baptized in Wichita, Kansas, while expecting her first child. She attended Modern Beauty School in Wichita, Kansas, where she acquired her cosmetology license and always retained a current license, even up this day. She attended several Oklahoma colleges where she earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education and later completed a master's degree in counseling at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She began her teaching career in Taloga, Oklahoma; she loved this community and many of her students remained her friends. While at Taloga, she spearheaded their Head Start program and drove the bus for those children. She then taught in Seiling, Oklahoma, where she made many wonderful memories. She later instituted the first counseling program at Seiling Schools.
In 1976, Mary was united in marriage to Roy Peters. Some said it would never last, but they made it 49 years. In 1982, they built their home in the country north of Seiling. Many good memories were made with their children and grandchildren around the swimming pool. The grandkids tried hard to teach Mema to swim until finally one stated, "Mema, you're right. Your butt is too big, and you just sink." Roy and Mary attended the Christian Church and became members there in 2006. They began working in the Food Pantry, and in 2015, they were asked to manage the Food Pantry; this became their ministry. They resided in the home they built together for 36 years until purchasing a home in Seiling in 2018. Mary loved life and always enjoyed company in their home. She passed from her earthly dwelling to her heavenly dwelling on September 16, 2025, with her loving husband by her side. "Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands." 2 Corinthians 5:1
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mollie Goss; sisters Virginia Kinney, Genella Houston, Pearl Cravens, and Dorothy Stallings; brothers Bill Goss and Frank Goss, Jr.; sons-in-law Bill Bush and Chris Jones; step-son Ryan Peters; and great grandson Maddox Oakes. She is survived by her husband, Roy Peters; daughters Kim Hartman and husband Bill of Yukon, OK, Tamara Oakes and husband Kevin of Taloga, OK, and Shelley Jones of Yukon, OK; step-children Shawn Peters and wife Vikki of Springfield, MO, and Mardena Murray and husband Dave of Wagoner, OK; grandchildren Kris Oakes and wife Brenda of Tulsa, OK, Kelly Zoschke and husband Ezra of Yukon, OK, and Kason Oakes and wife Casandra of Guymon, OK; step-grandchildren Max, Luke, Ian, Ben, Chelsea, Oakley, and Dace; great grandchildren Emory, Isla, Isaiah, Brinley, Hezekiah, Presley, Eason, Jace, and Isaac; and sister Georgie Haltom and husband C.E. of Enid, OK.
