Alfred Ball, long time farmer and rancher in Major County passed away on January 17th, 2016, at the age of 89 years in Fairview, Oklahoma. He was born May 5th, 1926, at the home place in western Major County, near Fairbanks to the late Ira and Ruth Ball.
Alfred grew up in western Major County and he graduated from Cheyenne Valley High School in 1943. He married Dorothy Mae Plummer on September 5th, 1946. Four children were born in to the family; one son, deceased, Leota, Mary and Sonya.
He was very active in the state and local Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, held offices in the Enid Production Credit Association, state and local Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Major County Historical Society, Waynoka School Board, Major County Republicans, and a member of Elm Grove Assembly of God where he was a Board Member, Sunday School Superintendent and sponsored youth group activities.
Alfred loved to travel and took many trips. He was an enthusiastic van and bus driver plus a great tour guide for the Cattlemen's and Senior Citizen's trips. He loved to be outdoors with his cattle and farm but he also enjoyed water skiing and snow skiing. He and his wife Dorothy enjoyed hosting dinner parties for their friends. Alfred was always supportive of his daughters and their activities. He loved to watch his daughters participate in basketball, cheerleading and never missed a game.
He is survived by two daughters Leota Betts, Oklahoma City, and Sonya Darr and husband Travis of Fairview, Oklahoma, one sister Mary Leota Gibson, Fairview, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 6 nephews, 1 niece and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Ball, daughter Mary Boren, grandsons Michael Childers and William Betts, one sister Elsie Conaway, two brothers Leonard and Linzy Ball, and his parents Ira and Ruth Ball.
