Obituary

Alton Leo Gore, of Seiling, passed from this life on March 19, 2020.  He was born on July 21, 1939 in Seiling, OK to Floyd and Lillian (Wilson) Gore.

Alton was raised in Seiling, where he worked for his parents  at the Phillips 66 service station.  Alton graduated from Seiling High School with the Class of 1957.  He then moved to Wichita, KS where he worked as an airplane mechanic for Boeing.  Alton married Lavon Krows on November 15, 1959 at the First United Methodist Church of Seiling, where they made their home.  In 1967, they purchased the Phillips 66 station from his parents, where he worked  his entire life. He was instrumental with the foundations of Gore Nitrogen in 2001, Gore Exploration in 2005, and Gore's Travel Plaza in 2015.

Alton loved his three boys, Tony, Gary, and Marty Gore, and supported all of their activities from little league to state championships, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, FFA, band, and academics.  He was also active in the Jaycees and their local carnival, local bowling leagues, United Methodist Men, and the Seiling Wildcat Booster Club, serving in many capacities, including president.  Alton served as the 2017 Seiling Rodeo Grand Parade Marshal, and was inducted into the Dewey County Historical Society Hall of Fame in 2019.  In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars (especially older models), collecting coins, and generally staying busy keeping things nice and clean.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lillian Gore; son, Marty Alton Gore; and by the love of his life Lavon, his wife of 60 years.

Alton is survived by his children: Tony Gore and wife Genia of Tuttle, OK, Gary Gore and wife Shawn of Seiling, Daughter-In-Law Amy Gore of Seiling; eight grandchildren, Derrick Gore and wife Mackensie of Seiling, Kyle Gore and wife Tayler of Tuttle, OK, Makinze Gore of Brooklyn, NY, Aaron Gore and wife Stacy of Seiling, Garrett Gore and wife Alma of Seiling, Jacob Gore and wife Madison of Perkins, OK, Hogan Gore of Washington, D.C. and Graham Gore of Norman, OK; five great grandchildren, Finley, Charlotte, Connlee, Landree, and Bowen Gore; sister Andrea Unwin and husband Neil of Plainview, TX; brother Nolan Gore and wife Irlene of Pueblo, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

As recommended by our state membership, Alton Gore's funeral service will be limited to family.  You will be able to watch a stream of the service on our facebook page Shaw and Redinger Funeral Homes .  You can also sign the guestbook on our website at shawfuneralhome.net

The services will go live shortly before 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 26, 2020 from the First United Methodist Church of Seiling.

Burial will follow the service at Brumfield Cemetery
