Betty Arlene (Hurt) Martin
7/16/1942 – 9/25/2023
Betty Arlene, second daughter of Benjamin John and Loy Pearl (Hamilton) Hurt, was born at home on the Hurt family farm in the Phroso community, July 16, 1942. .
She lived across the road from her dad's parents and about a mile from her mother's parents. She went to a one room school, Phroso, for two years, then to Chester for a year, fourth through 12th grade at Seiling Public Schools graduating salutatorian with the class of 1959 at only 16 years old. She was a member of the National Honor Society for 6 years. She started at SWS (currently known as SWOSU), Weatherford at 16 and got an associate degree in business administration. At 18 she started working at Farmer's and Merchants National Bank in Fairview as a teller.
She married her love of a lifetime, Paul D Martin on December 31, 1961 at age 19 at the Methodist Church chapel in Fairview, OK. They were blessed with 3 children, Paul Bruce, Gaylene, and Teresa all born at the Fairview Hospital. They bought their first farm in 1965 raising a loving family, cattle, wheat and hay. The children were athletic and had beautiful voices like their daddy. Betty enjoyed their events and rarely missed any of them. All 3 children graduated at Seiling High School and went to college. She wanted only the best for her husband and children and strived to work hard and never give up. They had a job to honor God, family, and country. She was proud to say their children never went to bed hungry. She enjoyed two-steppin', 7-point pitch, fishing, gardening, canning, cooking and spoiling her family. She was baptized at the First Christian Church in Seiling. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul D Martin, daughter, Gaylene Denise Roulet, her parents, Ben & Loy Hurt, and her sister, Loretta Ann Slater.
Those left to miss her noodles and cherish her memory and love are son, Paul Bruce Martin (Paula) of Enid; daughter, Teresa Klingsick (Marcus) of Stillwater; son-in-law, Chris Roulet (Heather) of Clinton; grandchildren, Brooke Roulet of Yukon, Katie Hayslett (Tyler) of Ft. Worth, TX, Ryan Roulet (Cami) of Weatherford, Landon Martin ( Brooke) of Enid, Ky Klingsick of Morehead, KY, Kamdyn Klingsick of Stillwater; great grandchildren: McKinley and Kason Martin of Enid, Koper Roulet of Weatherford, and Joshua Hayslett of Ft. Worth, TX; as well as bonus grandchildren Larry and Taylor; and bonus great grandchildren Sawyer, Paisley, Emma, Laylah, and Kinley; sister's-in-law, Pauline D Schoonmaker and Laveta Martin of Longdale; two nieces and a nephew as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial Donations in Bettys honor may be made to the Shriners Hospital or Elm Grove Youth Ministries C/O Redinger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Seiling, Ok 73663.
Funeral Services will be Friday, September 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Elm Grove Community Church with burial following at Orion Cemetery.
