Obituary

Billy Dean Barney began his life on February 19, 1940, when his parents, Calvin and Alvena (Schafer) Barney welcomed him into this world.  He was born in Major County during a blizzard and the neighbor, Mrs. Holub, had to assist with his delivery.  Bill, as he was known, went to his heavenly home on September 2, 2024, at the age of 84 years, 6 months, and 14 days.

Bill spent his early years on the farm in Major County with his parents, three sisters, and a brother.  He attended 1st through 8th grade at Lakeside School and the 9th through 12th grade, graduating with the class of 1958, in the Seiling School system.

On June 3, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to the love of his life, Deanna Graybill.  The couple established their first home in Ft Polk, Louisiana where Bill was serving in the Army Reserves.  Bill proudly served his country from 1963 through 1969 and earned the rank of Private E1.

After his discharge from the Reserves, Bill and Deanna returned to Seiling, Oklahoma and made their home.  They were blessed with two children, Melinda and Glen. Bill worked as a gas measurement technician with Panhandle Eastern during this time.

Bill and Deanna remained in Seiling until 2010, they then moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma until declining health problems prompted Bill to move to Oklahoma City to an assisted living facility.

Bill accepted Christ as his lord and savior at an early age and was a member of the Methodist Church where he participated in the Methodist Men organization. He had a strong faith in the Lord that shaped his entire life.

Bill loved to hunt and the outdoors. Bill was also a supporter of the Band Booster Club during his time in Seiling.  His family was what he most cherished. His children and grandchildren were the most important people in his life.

Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Deanna; his parents; sister Patsy "Pat" Armstrong, and infant sister Gloria June Barney.

He leaves behind his children Melinda Billings and husband Gary of Yukon, OK, and Glen Barney and wife Becky of Oklahoma City, OK. Bill also leaves behind four grandchildren who will cherish his memory, Brock Billings of Oklahoma City, Blake Billings of Yukon, Richard "RC" Strout and wife Sarah of Oklahoma City, and Zachary Barney of Oklahoma City.  Others who will miss his presence are his sister Ann Patocka and husband Jimmy of Hennessey, OK, sister Sue Ward and husband Ronnie of Newcastle, OK, brother Calvin Barney Jr. of Lubbock, TX, and brother-in-law Tandy Armstrong of Seiling, Ok.

There are nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends who will be forever thankful that they had the privilege of knowing Bill Barney.
