Obituary

Cecil "Beans" Harrell, son of John and Nancy (Moore) Harrell, was born on December 1, 1926 in Canute, OK.  He passed from this life on November 29, 2025, 2 days shy of his 99th birthday.

Beans spent his childhood farming cotton on the family's 180 acre farm close to Canute.  The family used mules to do the farming.  Beans' father had him quit school at the age of 15 because he said he was a big kid and was needed on the farm.  He sure loved riding the school bus for as long as he could.  Beans said he could pick about 650 lbs. of cotton a day and the family received $1.00 a pound.

Bean's father trained race horses and this was a trade he picked up quickly.  Beans met Peggy Sander at the race track in Seiling called "Little Louisville."  Shortly after meeting, he and Peggy ran away to Tijuana, Mexico and were married September 11, 1947.  Needless to say, Beans said it took a long time for Peggy's brother to forgive him for running away with her.  This union lasted 69 years and 9 months until her death in 2017.

Their love for horse racing took them all over the southwestern United States, New Orleans, LA; Raton, NM; Phoenix, AZ, El Paso, TX; Omaha, NE; Albuquerque, NM; Denver, CO; and Santa Ana, CA.

For years they traveled the southwest, living in various places, and settling in Arcadia, CA for 22 years.

In 1985, they decided to come back home to Woodward, OK where they ran the Sand Hills Training Center for horses.  In 1991, they made their move to a quiet neighborhood in Woodward.

Beans will always be remembered for his love of animals, his quirky sense of humor and his laughter.

Beans is survived by his sister-in-law Beverly Autrey of Seiling, four nieces: Lori Nichols and husband Tommy of Chester, OK; Kerri Pethoud and husband Kevin of Seiling, Rea of Phoenix, AZ, and Nancy of West Virginia, and a nephew Dale Harrell and wife Pat of Canute.

Memorial Donations in Beans' honor may be made to the Brumfield Cemetery Association c/o Redinger Funeral Home (Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663).
