Elvin D. "Don" Donley was born on April 16, 1937 to Otis Elmer and Elon Minnie "Melhuish" Donley at his grandparents' farm near Vici, Oklahoma. He passed away July 2, 2015 in Enid, Oklahoma. At the age of 6 months, the family including one brother, Nathan moved to the farm north of Chester where he lived until the time of his death. He attended school at Battle Ridge and graduated from Seiling with the Class of 1955. Don worked for the George Purvine family before joining the U.S. Air Force on August 7, 1956. On November 12, 1958 he married Evelyn Marie Lawrence of Vici, Oklahoma. Don loved life in the military. He started as a mechanic and then became crew chief on a C130 spending many happy hours flying. Don and Marie lived in several places during his 20 year stay in the military, Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Mt. Clemens, Michigan; Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada; Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Don was also sent to Thule, Greenland; Goose Bay, Labrador; and spent a year in Vietnam. They made many lifelong friends across the country. Don and Marie had four children Karen Marie, Katheryn JoAnne, Richard Wayne, and Ronald DeWayne.
Don retired after 20 years of military service and the family returned to the family farm in July, 1976. He worked for Harlan Hinshaw and soon became an excellent brick layer. He designed and built the Veteran Wall on Main Street while commander of the VFW post in Seiling with a lot of help from members of the post and community. He started working for Western Medical in 1997 and was employed there until just recently.
His greatest joys in life were family, especially the great grandkids, his cattle, reading, watching NASCAR, country music, watching the wild life, and his grand dog "Cheese".
He was preceded in death by his parents Otis and Elon, his grandparents Willard and Rose Campbell, and William and Ella Donley; Marie's parents Lee and Evelyn Bowman; son-in-law Darrel Daily; sister-in-laws Linda Johnson and Nita Bowman; and brother-in-law Jim (Bohan) Bowman.
