DONALD LEON BILLINGS, son of Walter Ellis and Ruth Velma (Walters) Billings, was born March 8, 1935 on the Walters family farm in the Fonda Community in Dewey County, Oklahoma. He died Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City a period of illness at the age of 80 years, 9 months, and 12 days.
Don was raised on the farm southeast of Seiling and he attended grade school at the Fonda School and later attended Seiling High School, graduating with the Class of 1953. He attended two and a half years of Mechanical Engineering School at Oklahoma State before joining the Navy, where he served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade with the 105 Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron. He was united in marriage to Nellie Melendez in 1959 on the Naval Base in Puerto Rico and to this marriage one child, Gary Billings was born. He married again on Feb. 14, 1976 to Charlotte Hinze at the Friends Church in Seiling and to this union two sons, Bryan and Nathan were born. Don spent his life as a farmer and rancher on the Walters family farm.
Don was baptized at the Fonda Assembly of God church in May of 1951, and was a member and faithful servant of the Friends Church in Seiling. In his spare time, Don enjoyed traveling (especially to Colorado Springs and Branson), bowling, farm shows, and football games. He was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Club with Brad Hutchison and enjoyed building and tinkering.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Ruth.
Left to carry on his legacy are his three sons, Gary Billings and wife Melinda of Yukon, Bryan Billings of Waukomis, and Nathan Billings and wife Sarah of Seiling; five grandchildren Brock Billings of Tulsa, Blake Billings of Las Vegas, NV, Rebecca Billings, Johnny Billings, and Hannah Billings, all of Seiling; an aunt, Cecil Billings; and uncle Alverne Walters, several cousins, and a lifetime of friends.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Redinger Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Orville White presiding. Interment will follow in the Canton Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Area Medical Foundation with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.
