Donald Wayne Hurt, Sr. was welcomed into this world by his parents, Adolph and Louise (Wilson) Hurt on August 27, 1942 in Canton, OK. He graduated to his heavenly home on June 9, 2022 at the age of 79 years, 9 months, and 13 days.
Donald was raised on the family farm southeast of Seiling and attended Seiling Schools. He worked at a local gas station before being drafted to the United States Army in 1964. He served loyally and honorably, attaining the rank of SP4 (T) as a lineman for the Signal Corp. Six days after his discharge from the Army, he married Betty Lou (Bunton) on March 8, 1966 , in Drycreek, Johnson City, TN, his wife for 56 years. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Donald the II, Margaret, Ed, and Sharon. The couple lived in Johnson City, TN, Monahans, TX, and Midwest City, OK before returning home to Seiling in 1982, where they have resided since.
Donald worked as a roughneck, oilfield hand, and construction hand. He enjoyed tinkering with his gadgets, watches, and clocks, building things, gardening, riding his lawnmower, and bird watching.
In addition to his parents, Adolph and Louise Hurt, he is preceded in death by his son, Donald Wayne Hurt, II; grandparents John August and Antonya Hurt, and Earnest and Pearl Wilson; brother Robert Hurt; sister Patsy Hurt; father and mother-in-law Charles and Mae Bunton; and brother-in-law Larry Bunton.
Donald is survived by his wife Betty of the home; his children, Margaret Charlene Hurt of Seiling, OK, Ed Hurt and wife Amber of Piedmont, OK, and Sharon Christine Howland and husband Brian of Woodward, OK; brother Norman Hurt of Seiling; sister Anita Donovan and husband Donny of Midwest City, OK; sister-in-law Barbara Woodfin and brother-in-law Charlie Bunton and wife Carla all of Johnson City, TN; the light of his life, his precious grandchildren Corey Hurt, Devon Ashton and husband Tyler, Alana Laskowitz, Mia Watts and husband Derrik, Cooper Evans, Charlie Evans, Bailey Hurt, and Preslee Hurt; great grandchildren Paison Ashton, Naomi Ashton, Merritt Ashton, August Ashton, Daphne Laskowitz, and Jensen Thiesing; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a lifetime of friends.
Graveside Services for Donald will be held at 2:00 PM at the Brumfield Cemetery on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.
