IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elaine Olga
(Louthan) Shuck
September 23, 1934 – March 7, 2024
Elaine Olga (Louthan) Shuck, 89, of Chester, OK was called to her heavenly home with the love of her life of 72 years holding her hand on Thursday, March 7 at Stillwater Medical Center after a sudden bout with pneumonia. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Elm Grove Community Church, Chester, OK with Ministers Barry Prock and Charlie Newman officiating. Interment will follow at the Brumfield Cemetery in Seiling, OK with services under the direction of Redinger Funeral Home.
Elaine Olga Louthan was born on September 23, 1934 to Lewis and Aileen (Gaston) Louthan at the family home in Chester, OK where she lived the majority of her 89 years. She attended grade school at Garden Vale at Chester and graduated from Seiling High School in 1952. On May 20, 1951, in the original Elm Grove Church, she was united in marriage to Derald Shuck and they remained in Chester as they built their beautiful life together. In 1953, they began their family and were blessed with three children: Neal, Lynette, and Renae. Elaine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother devoting her time and energy to her family and loved ones. She was raised to attend church faithfully and did the same in raising her family. Her love for Jesus radiated through her. Throughout her years in church she assisted with vacation bible school, she and Derald sang specials together at church and at many of the church funerals. She was always faithful to provide special dishes or baked goods for church community dinners during her younger years.
Elaine was an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing her talents feeding others. She cooked countless meals of quail, biscuits and gravy and large fish fries to many friends and family who frequented their home for hunting and fishing excursions. She was well known for her excellent pie making as well, and many would make a trip just to stop by for a piece of her coconut cream pie if they knew there was one in the oven. Her other delicacy was "Pheasant Under Glass" with a special creamed gravy. Elaine had a knack for putting a delicious meal together on the spot for an "unexpected" group of company and in record time. It was always a special treat when one had the privilege to sit and eat at her table. The grandchildren's special requests were her French Toast and homemade Chicken and Noodles. We always had a special Christmas candy that she "happened on to by actually making a mistake" in a chocolate fudge recipe and it quickly became the family favorite, and it still is to this day...but it's a tricky one to make and we're not sure any of us have mastered it!
Her family is what she lived for and she enjoyed doing everything she could for them and did it with a willing and happy heart. As she cleaned around the house, you would always hear her whistling. She had a servants heart, always putting others before herself. She loved spending time with, and being involved in, any and all activities that her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren were participating in, as much as travel and time would allow. She always beamed with pride for any of their accomplishments. She was their faithful prayer warrior and their biggest cheerleader.
Countless hours of family time was spent playing games with the children and grandchildren and she would last until 3:00 a.m. playing right along with everyone, she didn't quit until game night was over and this was still right up to her very last days.
She always had a beautiful smile for everyone she met and her kind, humble, and sweet spirit resonated through her. She was loved by everyone who knew her and she made many new friends during her last year and a half living at Legacy Village in Stillwater. She enjoyed visiting, doing arts and crafts, and playing games with the women residents there. She also enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, reading, and keeping up with her family and friends back home via FaceBook. It was hard when health issues forced them to have to move permanently to Stillwater in 2021 from the place they had always called home. She missed her Elm Grove Church Family dearly but was thankful for the technology of being able to watch church services online weekly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Aileen Louthan, her grandson Brit Shuck, son-in-law Ken Nelson; her sister Virginia Conner, and her brother Don Louthan.
Cherishing her memory and holding her dear to their hearts are her husband Derald Shuck of Stillwater, OK; her three children Neal Shuck and Claire of Seiling, OK; Lynette Nelson and George of Stillwater, OK; Renae Griffith and Mike of Makaha, HI. Grandchildren Jon Griffith and Abbey and great-grandsons Nolan, Calvin, and Maddox of Liberty, MO; Scott Griffith of Makaha, HI; Brian Griffith of Makaha, HI; Aleisha Rains and Devin and great-granddaughter Presley of Perkins, OK; Eric Nelson and great-grandsons Brock and A'Darien of Perkins, OK; Addi Shuck of Seiling, OK; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to the Brit Shuck Memorial Scholarship Fund, Ranger Dugout Club, at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in care of Redinger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Seiling, OK
