IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Samuel
Hammans
July 20, 1938 – January 28, 2025
George Samuel Hammans was born July 20, 1938 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Joy James and Velma Bertalee (Bull) Hammans. In his early years, his father worked as a farmer, and George rode a horse to school in the first and second grades before there were school buses. When he was eleven, his parents sold out on the farm and moved to town where George attended Woodward schools. He started as a brick layer in his last year of high school and made it his career. He married Mary Jane Farrand on December 29, 1957. Together they had four children: Rosemary Ruth, Daniel Dewayne, Simeon Samuel, and Michael Lee. After 53 years of marriage, Mary Jane passed away in 2011. George married Linda Sharpton on February 28, 2012.
Though George made his living by laying brick, his greatest passion was for Jesus Christ. He would spend hours in studying the Bible, then sharing and teaching others. He had a wonderful testimony of how the Lord would speak to him and loved sharing what he learned. When family and friends would leave, he most often would say, "I love you, but nobody loves you like Jesus."
George passed peacefully at home in Woodward on January 28, 2025, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Jane Hammans, his brother, Leroy Hammans, and great grandson, Theo Nielsen.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Hammans, of the home, his children, Rosemary Ruth and husband Ron Butler of Hydro, Oklahoma, Daniel Dewayne Hammans and wife Janice of Quinlan, Oklahoma, Simeon Samuel Hammans and wife Kathy of Lindsay, Oklahoma and Michael Lee Hammans of Woodward, his sister Leona Freeman and brother Joy Hammans and wife Mary, twelve grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of George to Tupelo Children's Mansion, P. O. Box 167, Tupelo, MS 38802-9988.
