GILBERT FRANCIS "CANE" RED HAT, of Seiling, son of Ronald Dean Red Hat and Linda Lou Whitedirt, was born on August 5, 1973 in Crow Agency, MT. He departed this life on January 15, 2016 at Mercy Hospital at the age of 42 years, 5 months, and 10 days.
Gilbert grew up in Seiling, living with his grandma and grandpa Red Hat, and attended Seiling Schools, graduating with the Class of 1992. After graduating, Gilbert worked in the area both in the oilfields and on local farms. In his spare time, he really enjoyed drawing and painting, as well as native crafts and sculpture.
In addition to his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death his grandparents Allen and Imogene Red Hat, and a brother, Johnny Whitedirt.
Left to carry on his legacy are his sister Jolene Red Hat of Oklahoma City; brother Marlin Whitedirt of Lame Deer, MT; grandmother Mae Whitedirt of Lame Deer; three aunts, Rosa Howling Buffalo of Seiling, Bonnie Redbird and Elrina Redbird, both of Lame Deer; uncle Randal Red Hat of Seiling, cousins Tony Howling Buffalo, Cato Red Hat, and Allen Red Hat; nieces Debbie Jean Jones and Heaven Alton; nephews Alex Washington, Dominic Washington, Wesley Red Hat, and Ronald Magpie; as well as a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
