Obituary

Jackie Lee Louthan, of Seiling, passed from this life on November 29, 2020 at the age of 89 years, 2 months, and 27 days.  Jackie was born to John and Thelma (Brooks) Schallner in Clayton, NM on September 2, 1931.  She was raised on the family's Schallner T-Bar Ranch. She attended school at Orienta before transferring to Seiling where she graduated High School.  Jackie was married to Norman L. Louthan on October 2, 1949 at the Orion Baptist church, and to this union two children, Douglas Lee and Michael "Brent" were born.  The couple made their home on the family farm Southeast of Chester, OK until moving to their current residence in 1953.  Jackie worked for Flossie Dierks at her flower shop, later purchasing the business.  She moved first to her home and later to downtown where she operated as Seiling Florist and Fabric for 21 years.  Jackie was also the project director for Opportunities Inc. of Watonga, a program to enlist senior volunteers in communities.  In 1981 she was appointed by Governor George Nigh as a delegate to the Oklahoma State Conference for the Aging.  During her tenure as project director, she was also an integral part of establishing the Senior Citizen's Center.  In October of 1984, she retired as director and became City Manager for Seiling, the first woman to hold the position.  Jackie was involved in many city projects including the Fire Station, the Quadriplex, and water lines.  During this time she also returned to school attending Oklahoma City Community College and later Southern Nazarene University where she graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management at the age of 59.  Jackie had a lot of determination and perseverance that she attributed to her dad.  She retired as city manager on June 30, 1996.  After retirement, she spent many winters in South Texas camping and meeting new friends.  She and Norman volunteered their time in summer months working at Canton Lake.  In her spare time Jackie enjoyed attending the sporting events of her grandkids and great grandkids.  She was also a member of the Seiling First United Methodist Church for over 70 years where she served in many capacities and was instrumental in the United Methodist Women.

In addition to her parents, John and Thelma Schallner, Jackie was preceded in death by three sisters and their husbands, Jeanne Scheier and husband Joe Scheier, Grace Thorston and husband Lloyd, and Almeda Penwell and husband Penny.

Jackie is survived by her husband of 71 years, Norman Louthan of Weatherford; son Doug Louthan and wife Cindy of Weatherford; son Brent Louthan and wife Nancy of Seiling; grandchildren Cory and Krystal Louthan of Aurora, CO, Ashley and Lance Floyd of Woodward, OK, and Megan and Josh Tobitt of Goldsboro, NC; five great-grandchildren Tatum, Talyn, Makale, Brycee, and Taylor as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
