James E. "Jimmy" Campbell was born September 14, 1937 to W.F. "Garney" and Inez Campbell on the family farm southeast of Chester. He departed this life on November 13, 2020 at the age of 83 years. James attended Tiviola Country School through the 8 th grade and finished his high school years at Seiling graduating with the Class of 1955. In July of 1958, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Hoffman. They made their home in Canton for a year before moving to Cheyenne Valley for 11 years. While in Cheyenne Valley, he worked for the railroad in Waynoka and built stock tanks for many area farmers while starting his own farming operation. In July of 1960 their only child Steve was born. In 1971, the couple built and moved into their current home near Orion. In the mid 1970's James began his construction business building metal buildings. Farming was always his passion though, and he continued to farm until late last year. James was a member of the Orion Baptist Church. Over the years, he served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught various Sunday School classes. He enjoyed many years of hunting with his brothers in Colorado. Another favorite pastime of his was checking his cattle and buying farm equipment. The joys of his life were his two granddaughters and two great grandsons. He encouraged their love of animals by buying them almost any kind they wanted, even going to a horse auction in the freezing cold because, the girls "needed a horse."
James was preceded in death by his parents W.F. and Inez Campbell; his two brothers Robert Campbell and Harold Campbell; and a brother-in-law Dean Ward.
James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Campbell of the home, son Steve Campbell and wife Julie of Chester; granddaughters Kellie Kinsey and husband Kyle of Woodward, and Kendra Campbell of Chester; great grandsons Braxton and Ryker Beall of Woodward; sister Betty Ann Ward of Yukon, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Orion Baptist Church. Burial is to follow at Orion Cemetery.
Memorial Donations in James' honor may be made to the Orion Baptist Church in care of Redinger Funeral Home (Box 236, Seiling, OK 73663).
