Obituary

Jennifer Marie Murray Jones was born in Weatherford, OK, 10-30-76. The center of attention for 5 yrs, she proudly became big sister to Stephen, Amy, and Seth, rounding out the family for Teresa Burchett Murray and Michael Murray.

She attended Weatherford schools K-10 and Enid H.S. 11th and 12th. Her activities included Girl Scouts, Band, Constitution Team (and its trip to D.C.), and Falls Creek church camp.

Jen's 2 SWOSU Bachelors were in English, evidenced by her part in the faculty roast, and History, shown in love of ancient history, especially, Egypt. She later visited London twice, once with her childhood friend, Erin, whose dad loves history and was a role model.

Her interest in soil wasn't farming like Grandad Bud, but in archaeology. In OSU grad school she toured Egypt and participated in an arch dig in Jordan. She also earned her Master's in Applied History. She followed with a Master's in Archaeology from the University of Leicester.

Jen ran her own business aiding communities with National Historic Preservation projects, including some in Enid. She was an adjunct instructor in history for Northern Oklahoma College at the Enid campus, sharing teaching in common with Mom, Aunt Cheryl, and brother Seth. She worked briefly for a firm in Colorado but returned to her home.

In The Chronicles of Oklahoma Jen published articles on the history and adaptive reuse of Enid Masonic Temple by the Enid Symphony, history of the Enid's Youngblood Hotel, and the birth of Route 66.

She relocated to OKC/Norman working for ODOT on OU's campus, tramping around bridges and such to verify how changes would affect cultural impact of areas. She fell ill with a very rare autoimmune disease in 2017, leaving her bedridden. But her quick wit, like Grandad Bud's, was still there to use on her family.

Jen loved books like librarian Mom, Dad, Aunt Cheryl, and grandad Bud, and crocheting like Great Grandma Armstrong. While immobile she watched a variety of tv, especially Victorian movies and anything historical. She was proud of her siblings and their children and loved classical art, music, museums, and fashion.

Jen accepted the Lord as a preteen and was baptized in Trinity Baptist Church of Weatherford. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 tells us: "But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have not hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those who have died." We mourn, yet know we will see her again!

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at the Redinger Funeral Home Chapel in Seiling, OK.  Burial will follow at Brumfield Cemetery.
