Obituary

Jerry Lee Morton left this world at 5:29 PM on July 20, 2022, following a sudden and intense battle with cancer.  Jerry was born on September 29, 1956, in Keokuk, Iowa to Warren L. and Anna M (Schneider) Morton.  From the age of 2 until 20, Jerry lived in Quincy, Illinois, where he attended school.  He then moved to Woodward, OK, where he worked in the oilfield service industry for 41 years.  He began a second career with the City of Woodward where he worked until his retirement in 2021.

In 1998, Jerry met the love of his life, Marilyn Smith.  They were married on November 7, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Seiling, OK.  They made their home in Woodward, OK where they lived a wonderful life until Jerry's passing.

Jerry loved motorcycles which started at an early age, first with minibikes, advancing to Spanish racing bikes, dirt tracks, and four wheelers.  His adventures included two trips on his beloved Harley Davidson to Sturgis, South Dakota. Always the one to enjoy time with family, Jerry served as the captain of the "party pontoon boat", pulling grandsons, nieces, and nephews around Canton and Ft. Supply Lakes during the summers.

Jerry dearly enjoyed spoiling his wife, mother-in-law, other family members, and neighbors with his acts of kindness and service.  He enjoyed cooking out for family and the Friday evening trips to Boiling Springs with Marilyn and Norma to watch deer and enjoy the wildlife of the park.

Jerry's memories will be cherished by his wife, Marilyn, his two children:  Scott Morton and wife Amber of New Orleans, LA, and Jennifer Pumba and husband Jasper of Mustang, Oklahoma.  He also leaves behind sisters Pat Cannon of California and Barbara Richmiller and husband Brad of Quincy, IL.  Also left to miss his presence are grandchildren Austin and Denton Morton, and Dylan and Emma Jones. He will also be greatly missed by the members of Jerry's Smith family which includes mother-in-law Norma Smith, Verda Weston and children Sean and Julianne Weston, Patty and Ronnie Hewitt, Carolyn Smith and children Desiree and Sam Smith, and Tami Smith and children Ric, Michael, and Katrina Smith.

Marilyn and Scott invite you to Jerry's final Tailgate Party, featuring the game between OU and Nebraska, will be Saturday September 17, at 11:00 AM at the Woodward Community Center located in Crystal Beach Park in Woodward, OK.

A memorial service remembering Jerry will be after the game at 4:30 PM at the Woodward Community Center.
