Obituary

John Manson Haslett, Jr. was born in Okmulgee, OK on Thursday, July 9, 1953, the youngest child of John Manson and Naomi Lois (Hatcher) Haslett.  He died in Muskogee, OK on Saturday, February 12, 2022.  He was 68 years of age.

John attended McClain High School in Tulsa, OK.  However, he left school early to enlist in the United States Navy, where he served from 1971 to 1981, achieving the rank of AD2 (Aviation Machinist's Mate Petty Officer 2 nd Class).  He also continued working as a civilian contractor airplane mechanic after his discharge, retiring from Tinker Air Force Base.  He enjoyed watching the History Channel and challenging to learn history trivia.  He also liked fishing, especially at Lake Texoma to catch the "Big Ones," and going to the casino.  John also enjoyed helping his landlord with the farm and cattle.

John was preceded in death by grandparents Roy Frank and Tennie Haslett, and Sherman and Gladys Hatcher; parents John, Sr. and Neoma Haslett; and two brothers, John "Lynn" Haslett, and Donald Ray Haslett.

He is survived by his sons, Jason Haslett of Oklahoma City, and Brandon M. Haslett and wife Amanda of Waxahachie, TX; grandson Jacob Haslett of Waxahachie, TX; two sisters, Charlotte Austin and husband Tom of Yukon, OK, and Cindy Bennett and husband Calvin of Canton, OK; two sisters-in-law, Linda Haslett of Tulsa, OK, and Cynthia Haslett of Muskogee, OK; an aunt Polly (Morgan) Hatcher; an uncle John Hatcher, a niece, six nephews, and 15 great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK.  Arrangements are under the direction of Redinger Funeral Home in Seiling, OK.
