Obituary

James William (J.W.) Cole passed away on October 7, 2024. J.W. was born on January 31, 1940, in Putman, OK to William (Bill) and Bessie McGettrick Cole.  J.W. went to school and graduated in 1958 from Putman High School.  He then continued his education at OSU with an agronomy degree in 1962.

In 1962, J.W. became the father to James Reece and in 1963 to Maurina Kay.  In 1966, J.W. and Loretta Gail Doty (Retta) were married and in 1968, they moved to Seiling where they have made their home for the past 58 years. In 1969, they welcomed a son, Ron Denton into their family.  J.W. and Loretta have spent their lives dedicated to farming and ranching. J.W. and his family along with his brother Den and wife Peggy and children LeDena and Flint spent many years doing custom harvesting from Louisiana to the South Dakota line.

The family spent many summers riding motorcycles at their cabin in Red River, New Mexico.  They built the cabin themselves along with friends and family.  This has been a special place to J.W. and Retta.

J.W. spent his life dedicated to his wife, family, and friends.  He enjoyed his life of farming, raising cattle, and spending his days doing exactly as he wanted.

J.W. is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, in-laws, brother Leroy, as well as numerous other family members.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta, his children; James and wife Katheryn, Maurina Ray and husband James, and Ron and wife Sherri.  He also leaves behind siblings Den and wife Peggy, Nellie Sue Hedges and husband Bob, and Billie Yeager.  He will also be missed by his niece Amy and husband Aaron Young and Todd Willet, who spent many summers with J.W. and Loretta as well as numerous others.  His memory will be lovingly cherished by six grandchildren; Kyle, Ryan, Makala, Daniele, Randi, and Dalaney: and thirteen great-grandchildren; Brayden, Derek, Everett, Preston, Kevin, Brooklyn, Hank, Haylee, Levi, Vanna, Deacon, Candace, and Ella. There are many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends who will miss J.W.'s presence in their lives.

J.W. was a pillar of his family and will be greatly missed by many who loved him.
