Obituary

Lanny Ralph Sander was welcomed into his Heavenly home on February 10, 2025,  at  the  age  of  85.  He  was born on June 6, 1939 to his parents Ralph  Clayton  and  Crystal  Maurice  (Workman)  Sander  in  Woodward, Oklahoma. Lanny, along with his parents and 3 brothers, spent his childhood west of Seiling. He attended Seiling schools and graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1957. On October 17, 1958, Lanny married his high school sweetheart Betty June Gilchrist in Watonga, OK.   They were blessed with three sons: Kirk, Kent, and Kyle. The family farm west of Seiling was established in 1975 when the boys were  young.  This  is  where  Lanny  and  Betty  raised  their family and spent the rest of their 59 years of marriage together.  Some  knew  Lanny  as  "Okie  Slim",  and his love for livestock was evident through his raising of Beefmaster cattle. He was a true farmer and rancher; people would come from  near  and  far  to  purchase  a  bull  from  his  herd. Those who were closest to Lanny would agree that his passion was raising cattle.  A long time member of The Seiling Masonic Lodge #495, Lanny served in many different offices including being elected as Grand Master of the state of  Oklahoma  in  2000. He was very proud to receive his 50-year Masonic pin  and  to  have  served  as the President of the MSA. Over the years, he was  involved  in  Rainbow,  Eastern  Star,  Shriner's International, York Rite, and many other Masonic and community programs. He was thrilled to lead all his sons and grandsons to become Masons. Lanny's  greatest  pride and joy came from his children and grandchildren.  He wanted to be part of everything they did, including ballgames, pageants, track meets, birthday parties, livestock shows, and much more.  Lanny is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Ralph and Crystal; brothers,  Berny  and  Lindy;  and  granddaughter,  Darci Sander.   He leaves behind  a  legacy  of  love  through  his  remaining  family.   His  memory  will forever  be  cherished  by  his  sons;  Kirk  and  wife  Michelle,  Kent  and  wife Kim,  and  Kyle  and wife Helen, all  from the Seiling  area.   Others who will miss  his  smile  and  guidance  in  their  lives  are  his beloved grandchildren; Clay and wife Callee, Chad and wife Kayce, Crystal Cockrell and husband Ayden,  Carmen  Cumpston  and  husband  Eddie,  Nicole  Warrick  and husband Paden, Thomas and  wife Jill, and Todd and wife  Marci. Through these grandchildren,  Lanny's  life  was  blessed  by  8  great  grandchildren; Kyah  Paige,  Kamee  Kae,  Brantley  Mac,  Parker  Rae,  Hunter  Lane,  Lucy Mae, Sloane Darci, and Annie June. He will also be missed by his brother, Monty Sander of  Napa, California; sisters-in-law, Inez and Linda Sue both of  Seiling;  along  with  nieces,  nephews,  other  relatives  and  countless friends.
