Obituary

Larry Jo Burchett was born on July 16, 1951, in Taloga, Oklahoma to parents Leslie DeNean and Elda Faith (Perkins) Burchett. He passed from his earthly home on March 31, 2022, at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 15 days.
From 1951 to 1990, Larry lived in the family home in Seiling, Oklahoma. Larry was blessed with the love of a large family. His siblings were Lowell Alan, Nancy Lovjoy, Mona Ruth, Lane Stuart, Karen Ilean, Bethel Elaine, Lynden Eugene, Elda Elnora" Kate", and Lyle K.
The family was continually changing with older siblings growing up and grandchildren being born. Lowell graduated and married Lois Link and moved to Stillwater, OK in 1951, the same year that Larry was born. No schools were available in the 50's for children with disabilities like Larry's, however, tutors were hired when available and Larry's young nieces, nephews, and siblings taught him as they themselves were learning. Because Les and Elda significantly participated in the lives of their grandchildren and as Larry remained child-like, many nieces and nephews grew up together and shared a special bond. Larry came to know our Lord Jesus and he and his family attended the Methodist church.
From 1990 until the time of his death, Larry made his home at the Center of Family Love in Okarche, Oklahoma where he was happy and well cared for. His mother drove to Okarche every week to visit and take Larry for outings until her passing in 2002.
Larry's occupation was being a curious and an engaging perpetual six-year-old child, he delighted and found pleasure in many people, things, and activities. While at Center of Family Love, he had many "jobs", such as gathering soft drink containers from the facility to re-cycle, which resulted in an outing to the recycling facility, returning the food cart to the main kitchen, working at CFL's binder and filter shops, working in the thrift store, and helping in the garden center. Larry seemed to be mechanically gifted like his brothers as he enjoyed working with the machinery most of all.
Being mute, Larry also kept busy honing his communication skills to accumulate items he needed such as the waitress's cap, a magazine, or a new DVD. He liked to put in the quarters to get a Daily Oklahoman.
Larry loved books. He also had a special interest in TV Guide, Sports Illustrated, The Daily Oklahoman, and truck and heavy equipment magazines. He loved toy trucks and farm equipment, caps, DVD cartoons and movies, television, walking around the campus, and especially visiting all the offices and using the copy machines.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Elda, both sets of grandparents, Alfred and Elnora (Stuart) Burchett and Lovjoy and Mona (Frey) Perkins, all of Seiling, Oklahoma, three brothers: Lowell Alan Burchett, Lane Stuart Burchett, and Lynden (Lindy) Eugene Burchett. He is also preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Janith Burchett, three brothers-in-law: Henry Marshall Farrier, Carroll (Rusty) Russell, and Jack Henline: three nephews; Daryl Burchett, Danny Burchett, and David Lloyd; and three nieces: Delores (Burchett) Winfough, Wendi (Burchett) Gore, and Sherry Jane (Henline) Brockett.
Larry in survived by five sisters: Nancy Lovjoy (Burchett) Garrett Farrier of Stilwell, OK, Mona Ruth (Ruthy) (Burchett) Russell of Hooker, OK, Karen Ilean (Burchett) Baird Henline of Granbury, TX, Bethel Elaine (Burchett) Lloyd Classen of Dodge City, KS, and Kate Steele of Phoenix, AZ, one brother, Lyle K. Burchett of Oklahoma City, OK, two sisters-in-law; Lois (Link) Burchett of Manhattan, KS and Nola Burchett of Thomas, OK. Others that are left to cherish memories are nieces: Joyce (Burchett) Cornwell of Bison, KS, Tina (Burchett) Tharp of Junction City, KS, Susan (Garrett) Crowley of Stilwell, OK, Lori (Burchett) Bouse of Oklahoma City, OK, Sheri Loraine (Baird) Brown of Granbury, TX, Lesha Ann (Henline) Baker Hampton of Mansfield, TX, Kati (Burchett) Ward of Stratham, GA, Shelagh (Burchett) Bois Claire of Swansbord, NC, Staci (Burchett) Morales of Edmond, OK , Susan (Burchett) Masterson of Yucca Valley, CA, Ashley (Burchett) Overholt of Sarasota, FL, and Rachel Burchett of Oklahoma City, OK. Special "close-by" nephews that were very attentive to Larry and his mother are Andy, Tim, and Aaron Burchett and the late David Lloyd. Numerous other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, friends, and caregivers will miss Larry's presence. He was a shining light to all who knew him.
