Larry Keith Daugherty, son of Byron and Ruby Mae Daugherty, was born on November 24, 1935 in Watonga, OK. He passed away early Saturday morning, December 5, 2020 at the Seiling Municipal Hospital. He was 85 years of age. As a child, Larry attended school in a one room school house in Watonga until the 1st grade. Then his family moved to the Barnitz Creek area and settled in Butler. The rest of his school years were in Arapaho, where he graduated in 1954. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.  On December 23, 1954, he and Mary "Carolyn" Hendrix were united in marriage and to this union six children were born: daughters, Cheryl Dawn and Lisa Kay, sons, Mark Alan, Michael Keith, Chris Lynn and Glen Dale. The Daugherty family first lived near Arapaho where they farmed until the spring of 1968, when the family moved to Greensburg, Kansas where Larry worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company. They had lived in Greensburg for two years when Larry was transferred to Seiling. He retired in 1990. All the Daugherty children graduated from Seiling Public Schools. During their years in school, Larry was an active parent, helping with numerous FFA and 4-H events and helped with many livestock shows. He was also an All Sports Booster. He was an active member of the First Christian Church and a Custer City Lodge Mason. Larry was named Worshipful Master of Custer City Lodge #255 in 1965. More recently, Larry was inducted into the Dewey County Historical Society Hall of Fame in 2001.  Larry enjoyed many hobbies, one of which was his love of horses. The Daughertys raised and sold quarter horses and English Shire draft horses. They enjoyed horse-related activities of all types. They entered their teams in parades all over the state, competed in the state fair, attended field days, and used their hand-made wagons in weddings. They belonged to the Oklahoma Draft Horse and Mule Association and held a draft horse and mule day event for many years. Larry was an active member of the Great Western Cattle Drive and would drive his wagons each year in the Trail of Dreams wagon ride for children with cancer. He was a charter member of the Seiling Round-Up Club and had been a member since its beginning. Larry and Carolyn were honored to be the Parade Marshals for the 1998 rodeo. They have instilled in their  grandchildren a love of family and a love of horses. Carolyn passed in January of 2000, after a long illness. Larry married Artie Russell Shuck on August 25, 2000.  Larry and Artie shared many good times in their 20 years together.  They worked together in the community, church, and family events.   They took several trips together: an Alaskan cruise, Madrid, Spain, and also a trip to England, Scotland, and Ireland. They also enjoyed traveling together to visit their kids in Illinois, Florida, Texas, and South Carolina.  They also traveled by horse and wagon with several wagon train groups: Great Western Cattle Drive, and the Trail of Dreams.  They visited the Amish settlement of Jamesport, Missouri and the Horse Sale in Kingman, KS.  They made many friends.  He also helped Artie as they worked and hosted many exchange students. In his later years he enjoyed taking care of his cows, horses, Barbado sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, geese, pidgeons, peacocks, etc.  He enjoyed going to the chicken sales and also sheep sales.  He loved helping young people with their animals at home for the 4H and FFA projects.  He helped where he was needed.  Larry loved all of his grandchildren and Artie's grandchildren and considered them his own.  He loved all of them very much and they loved him in return. Larry is survived by his wife, Artie of Seiling; four sons: Mark and his wife Lisa of Chester, Mike and his wife Gina of West Fork, Arkansas, Chris and his wife Mary of Longdale, and Glen and his wife Cindy of Glencoe; four stepsons, Chris and Amy Shuck, Rick and Cody Shuck, Chuck Shuck, Robin and Jeanee' Shuck; 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one brother: Wayne and his wife Delores, and one sister: Phyllis. His babies: Itsy and Abby, several exchange students, Tabea Schweiger, Carlos Molinari Garcia, Stefan Roser, Peerapat "Dew" Sriprasert, Felix Moeller, and Juan Garcia He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn, parents, daughters Lisa Kay Daugherty, and Cheryl Davidson, and his brother, Gary Daugherty.
