IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leon Dean
Hutton
June 2, 1948 – June 30, 2024
Leon Dean Hutton was born on June 2, 1948, in Oakwood, Oklahoma to Pauline and J.D. Hutton. He peacefully joined his heavenly father on June 30, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father J.D. Hutton, mother Pauline Hewitt-Hutton and brother Kieth Hutton. Leon grew up in a generation of farmers where he tells stories of spending much of his youth on a tractor. He attended and graduated from Oakwood High School where he was a star athlete competing in basketball as well as baseball.
His character and compassionate nature were evident at an early age when it was necessary for him to become caretaker for his mother, brother and sister. He was able to attend college after graduation and pursued his Bachelor of Science degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He went on to complete a master's degree in counseling at Oklahoma State University. His career spanned 35 years mentoring students as a beloved teacher, coach and counselor and was lovingly referred to as "Mr. Hutton".
He was a loyal Oklahoma Sooner football and women's softball enthusiast and rarely missed a game. He knew every player and statistic and would gladly challenge any rival or skeptic. He was quick witted and never refused an opportunity to banter with others about his Sooners. He was well known in the archery and hunting community as a master at his craft. He developed many dear and long-lasting friendships with those who also shared his passions. He was a member of the Kansas State Archery Association and Wichita Archery Club where held multiple leadership positions. He spent much of his life outdoors in nature bow and rifle hunting where he landed many white tail and mule deer that scored Boone and Crockett awards. Two of his most memorable trips were to Canada where he was able to hunt and bring home two black bears.
He was a beloved husband and father, a staunch conservative who loved his country, and a man who stood for what was right. His humor, wit and storytelling were second to none. He always had a joke and a smile, and his presence warmed the room. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Patty of the home, two daughters; Amy Hutton and Kim Vernon, a stepson Donovan O'Hair, sister Rene Hodges and brother-in-law Joseph Hodges, grandchildren; Parker Rae, Zaden Rae, Bethany Davidson, Lloyd Crownover, Annabelle Wilson, Great-grandchildren Ezra Davidson & Emmy Davidson, Nephew Maddox Coulson and Niece Josie Vekony.
