IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lindy Garlyn
Sander
January 27, 1944 – June 30, 2023
Lindy Garlyn Sander, a lifelong resident of Seiling, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 27, 1944, in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ralph Clayton Sander and Crystal Maurice (Workman) Sander. Lindy dedicated his life to his family, his community, and the land he cherished.
Lindy's roots ran deep in Seiling, where he attended and graduated from the local high school. At the age of nine, in 1953, he was baptized into the First Christian Church, a place that held a special significance in his life. It was at this church that he would later marry the love of his life, Iris Inez Smith, on February 2, 1963. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and commitment that spanned six decades and blessed them with three children.
As a dedicated farmer, Lindy found solace and purpose in working the land. He possessed an unyielding work ethic, tending to his crops and livestock with unwavering dedication. The farming lifestyle allowed him to embrace the beauty of nature, and he found joy in the simple pleasures it offered. He also worked for Dewey County from 1964-1991, retiring as the county commissioner for the last 10 years. Lindy also had a passion for hand fishing, fish fries, hunting, conservative news, and trapping. These activities allowed him to connect with the outdoors and nurture his adventurous spirit.
Lindy's contributions extended beyond his farm and personal interests. In 2015, he had the honor of being the Rodeo Parade Marshall for Seiling, a testament to his standing within the community and his commitment to its traditions. His genuine and caring nature made him a beloved figure among friends, family, and neighbors.
Lindy is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Crystal Sander, his father and mother-in-law, Owen and Bernadine Smith, his great-grandchild, Jase Sander, his brother, Berny Sander, his sister-in-law, Betty Sander, his brothers-in-law, Ray and John Smith, and his son-in-law, Todd Atendido. Although their absence is deeply felt, Lindy's legacy lives on through the love and memories he leaves behind.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Inez Sander, who remained his steadfast companion until the end. His children, son Shane Sander and wife Teresa of Seiling, daughter Shawn Atendido of Edmond, Oklahoma, and son Lance Sander of Seiling, will forever cherish their father's love and guidance. Lindy's memory will also be treasured by his grandchildren: Skyler Sander and wife Kelly of Seiling, Kassea Bensch and husband Garrett of Seiling, Adriann John and husband Jeremiah of Yukon, Oklahoma, Evan Atendido of Edmond, Olivia Atendido of Edmond, Colby Sander and wife Jordan of Seiling, and Ryan Sander and wife Marie of Seiling. His great-grandchildren, Katon Mackey, Jake Sander, Rylee Bensch, Greyson Bensch, Cannon Bensch, Madeline John, and Jack Sander, will forever hold a special place in their hearts for their beloved great-grandfather. He is also survived by brothers Lanny Sander of Seiling and Monty Sander of Napa Valley, CA, and sister in law Linda Sue Sander.
In addition to his immediate family, Lindy leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who were touched by his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit. His legacy will continue to resonate in the lives of all those fortunate enough to have known him.
Lindy Garlyn Sander will be remembered as a dedicated farmer, a loving husband, a caring father and grandfather, and a cherished friend. His unwavering faith, strong work ethic, and love for his family and community will remain an inspiration to all. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.
