Mary "Lillian" McCulley, 94, of Seiling, passed from this life on Monday, August 24, 2015. Lillian was born on January 28, 1921 to Walter Floyd and Anne Lou (Jones) Head in Lumpkin, Georgia. Her parents were tobacco farmers. Lillian lost her mother at the age of five, and when her father was unable to care for her she moved to Florida to live in a parental home where she learned to cook and make her own clothes. She attended a 7th Day Adventist Girls Academy where she earned her high school diploma. In January of 1941, she married the love of her life, James Thomas "Jim" McCulley, a union of 55 years until his passing in 1996. The couple made their home in Jacksonville, Florida where Lillian spent most of her time as a homemaker. After her husband's death, Lillian moved to Seiling in 2002, and later to the Fairview Fellowship Home, before returning to Seiling earlier this year. In her spare time, Lillian liked playing cards, making new friends, sewing, crocheting, and cooking. She was especially famous for the Christmas meals she would prepare for the family. She will be remembered as a hard worker who always sacrificed for her children to insure they felt protected and supported.
In addition to her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by her husband "Jim" McCulley, granddaughter Melissa Suzanne Unwin, and six siblings: Floyd, Joseph, Ferris, Rochelle, Phillip, and Ted Head.
Left to carry on her legacy are her children James Thomas "Tom" McCulley and wife Linda of Lawrenceville, GA, and Mary Suzanne "Suzy" Unwin and husband Rick of Seiling; three grandchildren Michael McCulley of Lawrenceville, GA, Michelle Cochran and husband Howard of Lexington, KY, and Chris Unwin and wife Vanessa of Chester; five great grandchildren Josh, Christie, and Charles Cochran, and Kyrsten and Grady Unwin; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
