IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melvin "Wesley"
Peterman
January 11, 1941 – December 8, 2022
.
Melvin Wesley (Wes) Peterman went to be with Jesus on December 8, 2022, at the Integris Hospice House.
He was born January 11, 1941, on his grandparents farm in Dewey County to Melvin Perry and Audrey Airlene (Young) Peterman. He attended the Seiling schools. June 13, 1959, he was united in marriage to Lou Ann Roper at the Oakwood Assembly of God Church. They lived in Oakwood to stay with his grandmother due to her failing health.
For a short time, they moved to SE Kansas, then moved back to the farm to help his dad. At that time Wes started pastoring his home church, the Huck Mac Assembly of God. He also went back to high school and graduated. Feeling the call to ministry when he was nine years old, his Grandmother Pete helped him write his first sermon.
The first child born to this union was Audrey Mae, at Seiling on March 15, 1960. They moved to Weatherford and Wes started working for Willie Kilpest Control Service. After that they moved to Oakwood to pastor the Oakwood church and Wes received his License as an A/G minister. While there he worked for Minton's garage.
Their son, Leslie Loudon, was born at Thomas, January 15, 1964. Later that year they moved to Yukon where Wes worked at Aero Command in Bethany as a punch press operator and various other jobs. Attending the Yukon A/G he filled in for the pastor when needed and helped start a church in Sun Valley Acres just outside of Yukon.
In 1967 Wes felt the call to go to Laverne as pastor. While pastoring there for 45 years he worked at Sells Motor Company; Seeger Funeral Homes, The Ambulance service and many odd jobs there and in the surrounding communities. After a few years they got to be tour guides for groups to the Holy Land. One of those trips included a night bus ride to Egypt. They felt blessed and exited to walk where Jesus walked.
He officiated at the marriage of his daughter Audrey to James (Herb) Foutch. June 24, 1983. June of 1984 Wes and Lou Ann renewed their vows for their 25 th Anniversary. He also officiated the marriage of his son Les to Lisa Jo Hughes, December 20, 1986, at the Buffalo First Baptist Church.
The fall of 1992 marked more than half their time at Laverne at the 25-year mark. Wes was diagnosed with an aneurism that summer, which the Lord healed him of. They were given a celebration including a Caribbean cruise that fall.
Bro. Wes was a people person. He enjoyed going to the local restaurants for coffee and visiting with folks. He felt like he ministered to more people there than at the church, sometimes. He enjoyed helping young people going into the ministry, because others helped him get started. He loved having missionaries, singing groups and evangelists come to minister at the church. He had a special place in his heart for the Sonrise Teen Challenge at Cache, OK. Their fellowship was wonderful and encouraging to him.
The church and community marked another milestone of 40 years, by honoring them with a weekend long celebration the fall of 2007 and Alaskan cruise July 2008.
Wes enjoyed the fellowship of the community and neighboring pastors. He worked closely with most of them at the funeral home and community functions.
He worked for many years taking youth and kids to camp at Turner Falls. He also was a sectional youth and missions rep for many years. Upon 50 years as an Assembly of God minister the Oklahoma District of the Assemblies of God honored Wes with a gold pin.
They retired from full time ministry in 2012. That brought him back to his hometown of Seiling, as he always loved working on the farm and all the equipment and animals.
This is where they lived until 2021. Dementia caused a traumatic fall on his 80 th birthday requiring facility care until his passing this past Thursday.
Wes's main concern was for all he knew and came into contact with was for them to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Audrey Peterman; 2 unborn children; Sisters: Janice Rogers and Madlyn Wilkerson; Brother-in-laws: Bill Roper and Billy Dale and 2 unborn grandchildren.
Wes is survived by Lou Ann of Yukon, Audrey and Herb of Yukon, Les and Lisa of Weatherford, Grand-daughter, Dacia and husband, Timothy Perkins of Sand Springs, Grand-son Wyatt of Weatherford, Brother, Pete Peterman (Elsie) of Kingfisher, Brother-in-law, Lee See (Joy) of Jenks, Sister-in-law, Leota Roper of Watonga, Brother-in-law Everett Roper (Lydia) of Seiling, Sister-in-law Dianna Anderson (Jerry) of Nicoma Park, Sister-in-law Mary Dale of Oakwood, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins and a host of family, all of whom he loved dearly!
