Obituary

Michael Mullins, 69, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Seiling Hospital.   Michael was born on October 20, 1954, at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, OK, to Carol Sander (Mullins) Estus and the late Robert Mullins.  As a younger child, Michael lived in Oklahoma, California and Colorado. He was baptized at the First Christian Church in Aurora, CO.  Later, he lived in North Carolina, and graduated high school in Brevard, NC.  Michael was a good student.  From a young age, Michael enjoyed motorcycles, skiing, boating and cooking, noting that he attended a Chef school.  His passion for motorcycles was nurtured by his grandfather, Homer Sander.

As a young man, Michael relocated to Austin, Texas.   While living there, he met and in 1986 married Lisa Knopp.  He embraced her two children as his own, becoming a loving father figure to them. At the time, he changed his employment from working in the computer industry to found and direct his own landscaping and rock business, 'Austin Rocks'.  Michael liked to tell about meeting Lady Bird Johnson, widow of LBJ, when his company supplied rock and landscaping for her property.  Later in life, Mike lived on Lake Travis outside Austin for many years.  There, he was well-known and respected for his work as a charter boat captain. He loved his time on the water.  More recently, Mike relocated to Seiling, OK, where he worked at the café as "Chief Hamburger Maker" Despite his subsequent battle with dementia over the past eight years, Michael remained a beacon of warmth to all who knew him. His gentle spirit and kind heart touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the world around him.  Indeed, throughout his life, Michael was known for his kindness, wit, and devotion to his loved ones.

In addition to his mother Carol, Michael is survived by his step-daughter Mandy, his brothers Bob Mullins of Houston, TX, and Steve Estus and his wife Janice of Lexington, KY, and his extended family and friends.  He was predeceased by his father Bob Mullins, stepfather George Estus and sister, Lisa Estus.
