Obituary

Mildred Darlene Smith began her life on April 10, 1943, in Mineral Point, Missouri.  She was welcomed by her parents, Oran Lee and Alice Maude (Brown) Downard.  She was part of a large family with 5 sisters and 2 brothers.  Milly, as she was known, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on January 29, 2025.   She departed this world at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 19 days.

Milly and her family resided in the Mineral Point area throughout her childhood.

Milly met the love of her life, James F. Smith, and the couple were married and this was the beginning of a long and wonderful life together.

Milly and Jim traveled all around the country ministering to others, whatever the need was or wherever they were called.

Milly's occupation was being a servant of God, her faith was evident for all to see.   She was a member of the New Covenant Church.  She was a true believer in Christ and thoroughly enjoyed teaching the world of our Lord and Savior.  Not only did she teach others about Jesus, but her actions and love for others only magnified her faith.

Milly enjoyed gardening, reading her bible, writing, and taking care of others.  Her kindness and compassion were evident to everyone who had the chance to meet her.

Milly is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim; parents Oran and Alice; sons Woody and Leonard; five sisters and 2 brothers. Those that are left to cherish her memory are her children, Randy Lawson of Missouri, Kelly Rasmussen of Michigan, and Jeff Lawson of Florida. There are other relatives and many friends who will miss the presence and guidance of Milly in their lives.

Milly Smith was a giver.  She was a helper who always stepped up to lend a hand.  She was also good at helping directing, and taking charge.  She wasn't shy, she delighted in leaving a person better off than how she met them.  She was like her mom, not a simple woman; but she had a heart of gold.

No services are plan at this time.
