Richard Allen Pettey, 70-year-old resident of Woodward, Oklahoma was born on January 10 ^th , 1952, in Redwood City, California to Leslie Dawson Pettey and Marcella Jean McCormick (Barnes). He passed from this life on April 29 ^th , 2022, at Vici Nursing home.  His parents came to Oklahoma for a two-week vacation when he was 10 years old and that's when Ft. Supply, Oklahoma became his home where he grew up and as an adult, he worked at Western state Hospital where he met Mary Gayle Hicks, and they married in November of 1972.  They had two children Melissa Gayle & Matthew Allen Pettey. Richard also worked for the COCA COLA BOTTLING COMPANY for many years and delivered papers for Woodward News and he also worked at Burger King where he retired from in 2005. Richard was a Christian and attended Living Word Fellowship. He loved spending time with his family he was always smiling, laughing and happy. He loved playing pranks and always had a funny joke to tell.  Richard was fascinated with trains and loved watching airplanes take-off and land. He loved watching OU football, his diet coke and Cheeto puffs, listening to Rock &Roll, and he stopped to say hello or help anyone in need.  You would always see him walking until he lost his leg to diabetes which was why he then moved to Vici Nursing Home, where he was loved by the entire staff and the residents. Richard was so proud to be Vice President of Resident Council where he welcomed new residents, and helped them get settled in.  He was survived by his only daughter Melissa Gayle Smith of Woodward, OK; his only son Matthew Allen Pettey of McPherson, KS; his 3 grandchildren who were the light of his life and he was the greatest grandpa to: Trevor Scott Williams, Devynn Adrianna Denson and Lane Connor Smith.  HIs Brothers, Gary Pettey of Woodward, OK, Robert Pettey also of Woodward, OK, Donald Pettey of Ft. Supply, OK, Michael Pettey and Stevie Pettey both also of Ft. Supply, OK; his only living sister Debbie Lening of Holdenville, OK; HIs nieces Lisa Marie Miller, Wendy West and Stacy Pettey; his nephew Shawn Pettey; many great nieces and great nephews and great nieces and great nephews. He is preceded in death by His Father Leslie Dawson Pettey and his Mother Marcella Jean Barnes (McCormick) his stepmother Evelyn Pettey. His sister Karen Sue (Pettey) Miller, Nephew Dustin Joe Tuck, Niece Misty Dawn Tuck, and great nephew Phoenix Crow. Our father was a great man who was a friend to everyone and always saw the best in people and those blue eyes of his always lit up when he saw his family, especially his kids and his grandkids who were his whole life.
