Roger Carroll Piner, a proud Air Force veteran, passed away on July 16, 2023 at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 23 days. He was born on July 24, 1941, in Willard, North Carolina, to his loving parents, David and Mattie Ruth Piner. Growing up in Wallace, North Carolina, Roger graduated from high school there before embarking on a distinguished military career.
After graduating, Roger joined the United States Air Force, where he served his country with honor and dedication. His time in the Air Force allowed him to cultivate valuable skills and experiences that would shape his life for years to come.
On October 8, 2001, Roger married the love of his life, Phyllis Smith, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Together, they shared a deep and abiding love, creating a strong foundation for their lives together.
Roger worked as a facilities manager for Gore's Nitrogen, where his professionalism and dedication made him a respected and valued member of the company.
Outside of work, Roger had a passion for fishing and enjoyed spending time at the casino, engaging in games of chance and socializing with friends. These activities brought him joy and allowed him to unwind from the demands of everyday life.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, David Piner, his mother, Mattie Piner, and his son, Roger Piner Jr. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis Piner of Seiling, Oklahoma. Roger also leaves behind his son David Piner and wife Donna of Lexington, North Carolina; his daughter ReBecca Bensch and husband Chad of Chester, Oklahoma; his daughter Kat Taylor and husband Brandon of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina; and his daughter Bobbi Jean Rochelle and husband Bobby of Surf City, North Carolina;and brother Larry Piner and wife Bonnie of Spartanburg, SC. Additionally, Roger is survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
In our hearts and minds, Roger will forever be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his country, his love for his family, and his zest for life. He will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will continue to inspire and touch the lives of many. May he rest in eternal peace.
A memorial service to celebrate Roger's life will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Redinger Funeral Home Chapel. The service will offer an opportunity for family, friends, and loved ones to come together, share memories, and find solace in one another's company as they pay their final respects.
