Obituary

Shelly Ann Tate was born in Thomas, Oklahoma on May 10 th , 1955, to parents Bill and Shirley (Anson) Tate.  She departed her earthly home on August 10, 2022, at the age of 67 years and 3 months.

Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Shelly was blessed by her ability to make everyone she touched feel like family, whether related or not.  There were many people who claimed Shelly as their bonus Mom, Ma, Nana, GG, Aunt, Tia, TiTi, Sis, and Gran.

Shelly was a "Doer" with a never give up attitude.  Her capacity for creativity, ideas, and work ethic led her to pursue many passions in life.  She was an entrepreneur, inventor, and gardener.  Never one to be restrained by rules or the status quo, Shelly explored ideas to bring fun and family together including founding a video store in Seiling and a RV park in Oakwood.

After raising her family, Shelly entered the corporate world in downtown Dallas and held many administrative positions.  For more than 20 years she worked in IT and Procurement with multiple companies and finished her career with Saputo Foods.  Upon retirement she moved home to Canton to enjoy closer time with family, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.

Shelly enjoyed getting together with others and celebrating various milestones including family reunions where any type of cooking, enjoying food, and playing games were involved.  She was always up for adding a little competition any chance she had.  A few of Shelly's hobbies included gardening, salsa making, baking, 4 X 4ing, and the occasional sushi date.  Those who knew and loved her often said she could grow a tomato plant on a rock if she ever needed to.  Her final years were filled with days of fishing, gardening, baking, and cooking with her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, going to t-ball games, traveling to Colorado to see her extended family, enjoying holiday festivals, and carnivals.

Shelly is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Shirley Tate; brother Billy Tate; and sister Dixie Tate.  Those that remain to cherish her memory are her children David Schmitt and wife Roq of Mabank, TX, and April Griffith of Seiling, Oklahoma.  She also leaves behind two brothers: Terry  Tate and wife Carie of Eagle City, OK, and Bob Tate  and wife Anna of Seiling, Oklahoma. Shelley also leaves Granddaughters Taylor Gore of Taft, OK and Kayla Gore and friend (Ryan Royse) of Ankeny, IA; Grandsons Cody and Loren Gore of Seiling, OK; Great-Grandchildren Jinali Draper and Jax Baker of Seiling, OK; Emma and Walker Royse of Ankeny IA, as well as more than 25 nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family is holding a Celebration of Life, per Shelly's request, on Saturday, October1, 2022 at the Jackson-Tate Family Reunion.
