Obituary

Wylan "Wy" Buffalomeat, (Cheyenne: Vóhpo'hāme "White Horse") was born on November 12, 1976 to a long line of Cheyenne Arrow Keepers including One Ear Little Man Old Sioux, Black Kettle, Jay Inec Cloudchief Black, and Jim Medicine Elk. Old Sioux received 160 acres of land from President Harrison. Wylan was born to Louise White Horse, a northern Cheyenne chief woman and Frank Nelson Buffalomeat in Woodward, Oklahoma. He grew up with his grandparents Mary and Harry White Horse in Seiling where he attended grade school at Seiling Public Schools. He later attended Lame Deer Public School, and St. Labre Boarding School where he was baptized Catholic. Harry White Horse was a combat veteran in Korea, as was his son Sterling; and Frank Nelson was a combat veteran in Vietnam. In the tradition of Old Sioux, Harry White Horse had received an award for outstanding achievement from President Ronald Reagan, and Louise White Horse received a award for 25 years of safe driving, also from President Reagan. Wylan also enjoyed the loved of his aunt, Myrcine Buffalomeat. In 1993 he became a movie star, appearing as Cheyenne Horseback Warrior #1 who captures Jon Voight in the miniseries "Return to Lonesome Dove" and was proud of being walked around the set by Angelina Jolie. He graduated high school at Anaconda Senior High in Anaconda, Montana. He attended college at Dull Knife in Lame Deer, Montana. He worked as a welder and a card dealer for the Lucky Star Casino. Wylan performed as a hoxéhetane (Sun Dancer) 4 times as a bald eagle, 4 times as a Northern Cheyenne Paint, and 4 times as a Southern Cheyenne Sundance Priest. In 1992, Wylan married Ja'Shon Sandcrane at Sherldan, Wyoming. To this union was born his first child, Cheyana Rose Buffalomeat. He was also married to Courtney Pratt and to this union was born several children.  On November 9, 2018, Wylan passed from this life at his home. Wylan is survived by his mother Louise White Horse; two brothers, Nelson Buffalomeat, a warrior chief,  of Wyoming, and William "Berk" Buffalomeat, a Kit Fox warrior; one niece Breanna Buffalomeat; two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
